Grandma, Papa, Bluebonnets and More

It seems with any big event in Kate's life, I find myself weeks behind on the blog. I'll attempt to get caught up just in time for her seven month photo shoot tomorrow!

The big even this month was a visit from Grandma and Papa. They arrived after Kate had gone to bed, but she was up bright and early the next morning eager to see them.

The paparazzi were swarming, thankfully Kate is quite the ham for the camera.

Nana came over for a game of patty-cake on Sunday.  Somehow she managed to steal Kate away for a few minutes.

Kate was back in Papa's arms and flashbulbs kept popping.

Kate's blood sugar was through the roof after this visit as she got lots of 'sugar'.

The camera even stalked Kate in the jungle of her play mat.

A tradition for any kid that grows up in Texas is the ubiquitous 'bluebonnet' pictures. For those of you not from Texas, the bluebonnet is the state flower of Texas. It is a wildflower that blooms every spring and covers the hillsides. This year because we've had so little rain, the bluebonnets weren't as abundant.  That didn't stop us from seeking out a little blue patch to start our own tradition.

Below is our attempt to capture that elusive family photograph amongst the bluebonnets.  It was a super windy day and the temperatures were pretty warm.

Kate was a trooper through the whole event and took quite an interest in the flowers. Too bad she didn't realize that she had just committed her first offense - it is illegal to pick bluebonnets!

Back home she focused her energies on trying to get that ball to move!   Won't be long until she figures out how she can move to it.

To continue the hill country tour, we took Grandma and Papa to take in some fine Texas dining - the Salt Lick.  After all the BBQ we ate we probably should have walked home!

As with most babies, Kate puts anything and everything in her mouth.  Here, her poodle dog suffers the brunt of her affections.

Some more snuggles with Grandma.

More photo shoots with our usually happy baby.

Look what I've learned to do - clap!

Before heading back to Georgia we made one more stop and trudged up Mt. Bonnell to take in the Austin sites.  Come back to visit soon!

If anyone misses the days when Kate's hair used to stand on end, all you need to do is greet Kate when she wakes up from a nap.  She has some WILD hair.

Her lovely 'do is the result of burrowing her head in the corner of her crib when she sleeps.  Maybe that's the secret for getting some volume in your hair.

With temperatures already starting to climb into the 90s we know our days of hiking are numbered until the fall.  We headed out on the Barton Creek Greenbelt this past weekend.

Finally, Some Real Food!

Kate finally got to taste some real food this past weekend.  We waited until the full entourage was gathered for the big event.  Grandma and Papa had flown in the night before from Atlanta and Mia and Dad were on hand as well.  The paparazzi gathered around and with the video rolling Kate had her first taste of real food - sweet potatoes.

Wondering what all the fuss is about, Kate eyes her new dinner suspiciously.

Trying to help, she has her first bite.

She's not too sure what is going on, but we think she likes it.

Why is everybody looking at me?

How am I supposed to eat AND smile all at the same time?

I like this real food thing.  What's on the menu for tomorrow night?

If you haven't had enough of Kate and her sweet potatoes, here's a video documenting the whole thing.

We definitely have a good eater on our hands.  After a few days of wolfing down the sweet potatoes, I decided we'd get a little daring and try something green - zucchini!  We also thought we'd let Dad share in the fun and try his hand at feeding Kate.  We think he did a pretty good job.

Kate loved the zucchini as well.  Not sure what our next culinary adventure will be.  Maybe a nice filet mignon?
